Richard "Little Bear"

Richard Little Bear with Small Feather painting

Richard "Little Bear" St. Denis is a remarkable example of what determination, hard work, and faith in God can bring to even the most desolate life. Richard’s childhood was marked by neglect and abuse, and he seemed to lose heart as he was shuffled from place to place. A kindly police officer rescued Richard from the streets and instilled discipline in his life, but it would take intervention from a higher authority to rehabilitate Richard. Richard was incarcerated in an adult correctional facility when he saw the error of his ways and accepted God in his life. God bestowed many talents upon Richard, and as Richard became more accepting of his Native-American heritage, these gifts manifested themselves as incredible artworks. Although Richard never learned to read and write and was never trained as an artist, he was able to express himself eloquently with paint and other materials.

Biographer Robert Ridgeway recounts riveting first-hand testimonials to Richards's various God-given talents, which are interspersed with examples of his work. Readers are treated to the artist’s insight into nearly every painting, paintings that were commissioned by a higher power. Richard St. Denis received the ideas for his paintings almost as assignments that popped into his head, and he dismisses his extraordinary talent, contending that he has merely copied that which he saw in his mind's eye. Richard's amazing paintings successfully meld Native-American culture and contemporary art into fresh new forms.

Paula Michel-Johnson

Paula is exploring new pathways for fully engaging spirit. For many years, a very active left-brained academic, she worked in universities as a communication professor studying how people communicated sensitive information in: employee terminations, HIV risk disclosure, interactions between disabled and non-disabled persons, and between allopathic medicine practitioners and integrative medicine practitioners. As a teacher, students found her emphatic way soothing. She brought Reiki and Therapeutic Touch into her classrooms in innovative ways. Though no longer in the university classroom, she continues exploring hands on healing, movement modalities, and intuitive processes. An article she co-wrote with Dina Wills, examining the spiritual process in Continuum movement will be appearing shortly in a book edited by Maggie Wills, Spirituality and Health Communication. Her own bouts with chronic fatigue syndrome, mercury poisoning, and thyroid irregularities have afforded her the opportunity to experience many alternative healing modalities. Laughter and good humor assist her in seeing the trickster in physical form, whether it is linked to her environmental sensitivities or family interactions. Her partner, a cyclist and mathematician, continues to provide fun and laughter as they watch their almost twenty-something daughters launch into the world.  For additional information contact Paula by email.
